It is stated i that he flourished a knife and stabbed • Arthur Bestic, a youu? man who resides in East Coast Read. Following on i this a gang of youths, who it is lieliev»d j were visitors to the district, raided the ! shop, smashing the plate-glass ivinuoxv, i showcases and door, while a quantity of ! fruit was destroyed. The shop front was jan object of interest to all who passed | *oy yesterday.. : Bestic, who is said to be suffering from a severe wound in tbe left band, ■was admitted to the Auckland Hospital at -00 a.m. yesterday, being conveyed by motor ear and launch. As far as can be ascertained, Bestic was not connected with tie young men who bad annoyed the Chinese, and t'.-e allege 1 assault came as a surprise when Le was passing with some friends. I Jimmy Chee. for whom Mr. Brown appeared, was cf.iarged at the Police Court, before Mr. !•'. K. Hunt. S.M., I to-day. that on January 1 at Takapuna. | with intent to do bodily harm, l:o did i wound Arthur Bestic. Senior-Sergeant liawle asked for a remand till January 10. T.is was granted, and bail was fixed at £30, j which was immediately forthcoming.
