A NEW CONVENT.
t .—■ IN DOMINION ROAD. LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE. Bishop Cleary, assisted by the Coadjutor Bishop Liston. yesterday afternoon performed the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of a new convent for the Sisters of St. Joseph at Telford Avenue, off Dominion Koad. Despite unfavourable weather there was a good attendance. The new convent is expected to cost about £3000, and should be completed by next April. The Rev. Father Murphy, priest of the Parish of the Good Shepherd, in opening the service, emphasised the great need there was for a convent in the district. Tho Bishop, in his address, said that during the great war they had witnessed the effects of the deifying of the. theory of brute force. He contended that they were in great need of spiritual energy to uproot that theory and give good law-abiding citizens. The Rev- Father Holbrook, Chancellor of the Diocese, spoke regarding the great work the sisters were engaged in on the first armistice day, live years ago, when they were busy in the influenza epidemic relief work. Mr. G- Foster also made a few remarks appreciative of the good work done by the sisters. At the conclusion of the ceremony a vote of thanks was accorded all who had assisted.
