BACK FROM AUSTRALIA.
DROUGHT AND ABUNDANCE. AUCKIAKDERS IMPRESSIONS. Among the passengers by the R.M.s. Niagara, which arrived from Sydney this morning, were Mr. and Mrs. A. is Bankart, who have spent a very pleasant holiday in Australia. Leaving Auckland eight weeks ago. they stayed a little while in Sydney, then went on to Queensland, stayed a fortnight there, and returned via the north coast rivers. The country, Mr. Bankart says, showed th, ill-effects of long-continued drought, which, however, had then broken. Tin.' Darling Downs were fearfully burned up, and there was hardly a blade of grass tv be seen. After a further stay in Sydney Mr. and Mrs. Uankart went on to Victoria, which State, Mr. Bankart said, pppeared to advantage, and in great contrast to the country previously passed through. The land was well watered, and grasses and clops were in excellent condition. They ! were fortunate enough to be out of Melbourne the day before the police went out on strike, as were quite a number of other New Zealanders who returned home by the Niagara. ' Mr. E. K. N. Russell, of the legal firm of Kussell and Campbell, of Auckland, and Mrs. Russell were with Mr. and Mis. Bankart throughout their tour.
