HOSPITAL FOR PAEROA.

START TO BE MADE. MATERNITY HOME AND ACCIDENT WARD. At a meeting of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Geo. Buchanan inquired as to what the position wae in regard to the establishment of a public hospital in Paeroa, and what steps had been taken by the trustees of the hospital fund in connection w ; th the matter.

The president informed the Chamber that he had been notified by Mr. Brenan, the borough representative on the Thames Hospital Board, that theboard was now prepared to proceed with the erection of the maternity home and accident ward as soon as the property and fund were vested by the trustees in the board. Accordingly, a scheme of distribution in terms of Part 111. of the Religious, Charitable and Educational Trusts Act, 1908, had been prepared and submitted to the Attorney General for approval, together with the other documents in connection with the fund. The Attorney General had approved of the proposed scheme, and had signified his assent to it in writing. The scheme as approved, with the consent, was now before the Supreme Court in Auckland for an order to be made giving effect to it. The Crown Solicitor had been instructed to represent the Attorney General, and the matter was now only awaiting a fixture to be made by the Court of a date on which it could be dealt with. In the scheme submitted ample provision had been made safeguarding local interests, as it provided that in the event of the hospital being at any time closed, or its U9e as a hospital discontinued, all land and lmiKdings acquired out of the trust fund were to become vested in ihe Paeroa Borough Council, upon the same trusts and for the same purposes as they were now held by the present trustees. Mr. Buchanan and other members expressed their pleasure in the satisfactory position of the matter, and the progress that had been made.
