OBITUARY.

MRS. J. T. KNIGHT. | A resident of Auckland for over half J a century, Mrs. J. T. Knight, died on j July 22 at her residence, 22, Khyber i Pass, aged 75 years. She was only ill! for a short time, having been attacked' with bronchitis. Mrs. Knight was the , mother of the well-known family of musicians of this city, and was highly esteemed by many friends. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Julia Lawes (Adelaide), Mrs. C. Connor (London), Mrs. M. Keenan (Epsom), Miss Daphne Knight (Auckland), Miss Madeline Knight (Queensland), and Mr. G. Knight, of Meadowvale, New South Wales. The interment was at Waikaraka Cemetery, requiem mass being first celebrated at St. Benedict's Church. MRS. I. WAUCHOB. ' At the great age of 94 years an old resident of Auckland, Mrs. Isabella Wauchob, died at the residence of her niece, R. A. Houghton, Surrey I Street, Grey Lynn, yesterday. She was! the widow of Mr. Joseph Wauchob, of Kincit House, County Tyrone, Ireland, who died 47 yeare ago. Mrs. Wauchob .vas the only sister of the late Mr. Robert Entrican, and came to Auckland in the ship Ben Nevis in 1880. her nephew, Mr. A. J. Entrican, being a passenger by tlic same vessel. She was a member of St. James' Presbyterian Church ever since hor arrival in this city. Like her three brothers, Mrs. Wauchob was wonderfully well preserved. Mr. Robert Entrican was 83 years of ago when he died, and the other two brothers reached the respective ages of 86 and 78 years. The interment takes place at Waikaraka Cemetery * tomorrow, and will be private. MB. R. R. BLACK. Tiie death occurred at Sydney last week of Mr. Robert Rolland Black, who was a well-known figure in this Dominion. The deceased, who was 55 yean of age, had retired on pension a few months previously from the position of superintendent for New Zealand of the' Eastern Extension and China Telegraph Co., in which service he had been engaged for over 40 years. >Mr. Black was the fourth son of Mr. William Black, a pioneer of Otago, and subsequently manager of the National" Bank at Nelson. the late Mr. R. R. Black started hie career in Nelson. His name will always be remembered with great appreciation by submarine cablemen, especially on account of hie discovery of what is known as the "reduced current" method of fault testing. By this very practical method great service was rendered to the cable service in the direction of localisation of faults and breaks. It has had the effect of enabling the discovery of breaks in submarine cables to be a> matter of ease and accuracy even for the inexperienced. Prior to, the publication by Mr. Black of his methods, great skill and experience was required of the electricians in the matter of fault localisation. For this and other discoveries in his profession Mr. Black received no financial recompense. A keen sense of duty was his paramount virtue, and be was a man of hrilliant mentality and of a lovable nature. He leaves a widow and son, who are resident of Adelaide, and three brothers in New Zealand—Mr. J. W. Black (Dunedin), Mr. E. F. Black (Christchurch), and Mr. C; H. Black, of Northcote, Auckland.
