•Mr. 0, A. Law, a tourist from England, is at present residing at Cargen. Dr. 1/ard, Mr. Leslie Wall, and Mr. T. W. 1-ia.ploy, of Wellington, are at the Grand Hotel. Mr. V. .Sligo. editor of the Brisbane "Mail." is at present in Auckland on a holiday visit. Messrs. .1. 1). iHarper. and D. O. A. ; 'C"ooper. of Wellington, who arrived hy \ the mail train this morning, are staying at t'argen. Dr. Stephenson liß3 left Dunedin for Auckland, where he proposes t , ) remain for a while in order to undergo special medical treatment. Mr. Walter Fuller, of Wellington, general manager for Hen and John Fuller in Xew Zealand, is visiting Auckland, and is at the Central Hotel. Mr. -T. M. O'Reilly, senior Custom's examining officer at Auckland, who has been appointed collector of Customs at New Plymouth, will take up his new duties after t be Easter holidays. ..Mr. Eric Wyles lnder, solicitor, of Auckland, was this morning nominated by Mr. (J. R. Hutchineon, and the Mayor, Mr. J. 11. Ounson, for a seat on the Auckland Harbour Board. Mr. and Mrs. tfeoresby Routledge, who have been engaged in ethnological work in the South-eastern Pacific, on behalf of the British Museum, have just concluded a short visit to the North Island, prior to their return to England. They were investigafffi»~,the mysterious statues on Easter Island, when tbe German Fleet under Yon »>pee, assembled there in October, 1014, and they first heard from the Germans of the outbreak of war. Mr. and Mrs. Routledge spent some fifteen months at 'Mangareva, C.anVbieiIslands, studying the folk-lore and its tearing on the problem of Easter Island. The staff of the Albert Hotel gathered for a pleasing function on Thursday evening, when they made presentations to 'Mr. and Mrs. N. Wilde, who are leaving Auckland to take over the Commercial Hotel at Whangarei. Deep regret was expressed at the loss of such capable and considerate employers, and earnest hopes were expressed for the welfare of the popular couple. Mr. C. Martin made the presentations on behalf of the stall—an inscribed wallet to Mr. Wilde, and silver ornaments and cake forks to Mrs. Wilde. A happy response was made by Mr. Wilde, who thanked members of the staff not only for their gift, but for the loyal and industrious I manner in which they had supported his management during the past twelve
