DETERIORATION" PR( >BLEM. REPORTS ON NKW S.tTPLY StiI'HCKS. j An emergency meeting of the Lake Takapuna Hoard of Control was held yesterday afternoon at the North Auckland Land Otliic. Mr. H. 1 , , (ireville presided. A report from the Health Department with reference to the contamination of the lake water was rend, und definite action was deferred until next Thursday, pending the receipt of a report from the officials who are making a special examination of the lake watershed. Great surprise was expressed lit the sudden deterioration of the water, as the monthly analysis obtained by tho board had for some months pa.-t shown a considerable improvement, the water being, if anything, purer than it had been lor some months past. The question of tlie removal of wee.ls ' from the lake was considered at length, | and it was decided that Mr. Powell, en-j gineer to the board, be instructed l»j draw up a speciiicat ion for the work! required, and that the question of calling for tenders for removal uf the weed from the lake for ii term of years be also considered next Thursday. ! Mr. Powell reported that he hud made' good progress with his engineering report regarding the various sources of extra supply, that the Wairau and Oteha work had been linished, and he was making a commencement on the Kangitopuni basin. lie hoped to have the reports available before the end of April.
