MEMORIAL MUSEUM.

'THE END IN SIGHT." Reference to the proposed War Memorial Museum was made at the annual meeting of the Auckland Institute last night, when it was stated in the report that the Citizens' Committee intended to continue the personal canvass for a short period with a view to bringing the fund to £150.000 before the public appeal for the balance of the total of £200,000 required was launched later in the year. The council expressed their high appreciation of the work of the Citizens' Committee and coadjutors in placing the claims of the War Memorial Museum so fully and forcibly before the consideration of many Aucklanders. The response, which had been so liberally and graciously given, was the most noteworthy instance of public generosity yet recorded in the history of the Dominion.

Mr. Gunson reminded Institute members that the sum of £145.000 now stood to the credit of the memorial fund. It had been no easy task, the collecting of this money, and the most gratifying result had only been obtained by reason of the unremitting labour of the collectors. The end was now in sight, and he hoped that ere the Institute held its next annual gathering the hoped-for £200,000 would be an established fact, and that the building would be contracted for to that amount.
