MOUNT EDEN LIGHTING.
ELECTRICITY TOO DEAR. REDUCED CHARGES ASKED FUK. Objections to the Auckland Power Board's quotations for street lighting at Mount Eden were voiced last evening by members of the Mount Eden Borough Council, on the ground of excessive capital charges. Mr. E. H. Potter, on behalf of the Street Lighting Committee, submitted a report which nhowed that the present lighting scheme at Mount Eden cost £1513, and included 2.52 lamps. The following were the Power Boards quotations, which were recommended by the' committee for approval:—'23 main road lamps of 250 candle power at £8 0/, €104 "/: 220 side road lamps, 100 candle power, at £0 18/t>, £1553 10/0; total expenditure. £1780 3/6.
A motion that the Power Board be asked to revise and reduce lighting charges for all local bodies, in order to encourage them to take up a comprehensive scheme of lighting was carried by six votes to five.
