A message from Lexington, Kentucky, states that for three days a Federal prohibition posse, numbering 100 men, battled with a force of illicit liquor distillers, who steadily retreated into an inaccessible mountain fastness, and are now hiding in caves. Two ofti.ers wer.? killed and many wounded. The posse finally gave up the attempt to apprehend the offenders, and attempted to h?at a retreat, but suffered casualties from snipers, who used long range rifles.
The Governor of Kentucky ha? ottered a reward of SOOdol for tho apprehension of the leaders of the band. Kentucky has always been notorious for "moonshiners." who far half c. century succeeded in evading revenue officers and often killed those who ventured into their preserves.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
