THE HOPELYN WRECK.
WHOLE CREW SAFE. PICKED UP BY LIFEBOAT. AFTER FOUR FAILURES. LONDON", October 22. The steamer Kopelyn, 2,34S tons, belonging to the Hopemount Shipping Company, Newcastle, was wrecked otf Yarmouth in an easterly gale. Thtt Gorleston lifeboat endeavoured to rescue the crew- of 25, but owing to the heavy sea was unable to reach the vessel. Only the bridge and masts were showing above the water, and all the boats had gone when a flag waa hoisted on the chart house showing that the crew wero still alive. The Gorleston lifeboat again made heroic efforts to reach the vessel, but three times it wae thrown back on the sands. The services of the Lowestoft motor lifeboat were then obtained, and eventually all the crew were rescued in a terribly exhausted state.—(A. and N.Z.) WRECK BREAKING UP. The crew cou'd not show themselves during the ea/lier attempts at rescue outside the Marconi room, where they had taken refuge, owing to the waves breaking 50ft high.— (A. and N.Z.)
