GOLF.
Walter Hagen has been called the world's greatest golfer, _and his record seems to bear out this assertion. He has VQ.JI every open title in America worth winning. He has annexed the national open twice, equalling tho record of John J McDermott and Alex. Smith, who are tho only two living golfers to accomplish the feat. Hagen has played in championships only eight years, including two years of no tournaments, during- the war, yet his record is little short of marvellous for 6O short a time. He began in 1913, and finished fourth in tlie Open that year—the year that Ouimet beat Vardon and Ray. Hagen won the National Open the following year at Chicago, and won this event again in 1919 at Brae Burn. He wkon the Western Open last summer, and once before in 1916. He won the Metropolitan Championship three consecutive times —in 1916, 1919, and IQ2O. He won the Eastern Open Championship in 1016, the Pan-American Open Championship in 1915, the|>French Open in 1920, tjje North and South Championship in 1918, the West Coast qf Florid* title in }920 and 1922, the New York State title in 1920, the Michigan State title in 1021, and finished up by annexing the Professional Golfers' Chajnpipnship last autumn at Jnwood, defeating Jim Barnes in the final
