PUBLIC CONVENIENCES.

ITO the Editor.) Sir, —ilt seßn's incredible that the City Council on Tuesday (Anzac Day), with thousands of people thronging the City, closed the ladies' lavatories in the morning. I called on Wednesday at the City Engineer's office to ask the reason, and was told "it was quite right, the day was as a Sunday, and the conveniences were not- opened till 2.30 p.m. in accordance with Sunday by-laws." Hid anyone ever hear anything quite so ridiculous? It is simply monstrous that these places should only be available at certain houTs. There should be ample public conveniences as in most cities ?nd towns of the world, and they should "be open night and day.—l am, etc.. PRO BONO PUBLICO.
