TECHNICAL SCHOOLS.
« WORKSHOPS AT HAMILTON. TE KUITI'S PUBLIC SPIRIT. A tender of £2497 (Mr. Whitaker) was accepted by the Auckland r.ducation Board this morning for the erection of the workshops for the Hamilton j Technical School. Ihis provides for an I iron roof, but the architect (Mr. .1. j Farrell) urged that it would be a pity to spoil the appearance oi the block, the rest of it being roofed in iron. Only some £70 would be saved. lie was instructed to use tiles instead of iron. The grant for the work was £3000. and Mr. Farrell gave an assurance that the j building would not cost more than ! £2600. Mr. ,T. P. Kalaugher. the director of the manual and technical branch, I said £1000 would he required for the ! equipment, so that it would be nocesI sary to raise £600 by the issue of debenj tures, and it was hoped to be able to I get that amount in Hamilton. Mr. Kalaugher reported that the Education Department had approved the purchase of a 12J-acre site for a techj nical school at Te Kuiti for the sum of J £1575. Of that sum the Te Kuiti people had contributed £700. The board expressed pleasure at this proof of the interest taken in the work by the people of that township.
