Mr. Alex. Harris, McT. for Waitemata leaves for Wellington this evening.

Mr. G. A. Haylock, of Dunedin, has taken up his duties as assistant in the pathological laboratory at the Auckland Hospital.

Messrs. J. S. Dickson, 11. E. Holland, W. E. Parry. M. .1. Savage, and F. N. Bartram, M.P.'s, left by the express last night foiWVollington.

Mr. L. E. Bullock, of the Christchurch staff of the New Zealand Insurance Co., leaves for Buenos Aires next month for the Argentine branch.

Mr. IT. J. Bray, of Ponsonby, who went home with the bowling team after visiting France and Belgium with bis wife and daughter, leave for New Zealand about the middle of October.

Mr. E. C. Purdie, secretary of the Board of Education, has been granted leave fff absence to tour New Zealand with the delegation in the interests of the Young Citizens' League movement.

Mr. Malcolm Brown, who died last Saturday at Southland, aged 88 years, was a Crimean veteran and also took part in suppressing the Indian Mutiny, being at tbe seige of Lucknow.

Captain Newenham Robert de la Cour Cornwall, R.D., R.N.R., has been appointed to the Royal Naval Reserve. Captain Cornwall is a native of Taranaki, and at present Is in command of the Otaki.

Miss Marie Jsilsson, the prima donna, who is visiting Auckland, was given a reception this morning at the Orand Hotel. Mr. J. M. Mennie, supported by the vice-presidents and council of the St. Andrew's Society, welcomed the young Scottish soprano on behalf of the Society and the Scottish community. In addition, a number of people prominent in the musical circles of the city, were present, and on their behalf Mr. J. F. Bennett extended a hearty welcome, and expressed the hope that Miss Nilsson would have a pleasant time while in Auckland. The gathering concluded with the 6inging of "Auld Lang Syne." The St. Andrew's Society has appointed Miss Nilsson an honorary member of the society.
