OBITUARY.

MR. LOUIS GOUSMETT. A gentleman well known in picture theatre circles, Mr. Louis Gousmctt, died at a private hospital after an operutiim. Deceased was of French extraction, and has been connected with picture theatre's for a number of years. He was one of the founders of the Hippodrome Theatre, of which he has been manager for the last few years. Mr. (iousmctt was a married man with two children. His age was 38 years. MR. JA.MES SAUNDERS. Mr. James Saunders, who died at Wanganui a few days ago, was born in Auckland in 1850. " Mr. Saunders could recall many interesting events in connection with the early life of this city. He was for many years connected with the Union Oil, Soap, and Candle Co. He severed his connection some years ago \Vith that company, to enter into partnership with J. ii. Ciilbcrd and Sons, Wanganui, with whom he continued to take an active part until a few months a°-o, when, owing to indifferent health, he decided to retire and enjoy a wellearned rest. Like most persons who have led an active life, he did not long survive after getting out of harness. Mr. Saunders was deeply interested in the work of the Methodist Church, especially in the Manukau Circuit, also at Mt. Eden and Alexandra Street j Churches. He likewise took a great interest in temperance, and was well known in connection with the welfare of the younger generation. Possessed of a genial, cheery nature, Mr. Saunders will be deeply mourned 'by a large circle of friends, both old and young. He is survived by a widow and grown-up family of four sons and four daughters. DEATHS AT THAMES. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, this day. Daniel McOlennen. licensee of the Tapu Hotel, died suddenly this morning. Mr. William Spiers, manager of the National Bank at Paeroa, died in the local hospital last- night.
