MINISTER OF EDUCATION.
* TOUR OF THE NORTH. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DARGAVILLE. Wednesday. The Hon. C. J. Parr. Minister of Educiation, laid the foundation stone of the new infant school at Dargaville. to-day in the presence of 800 children and adults. The Hon. J. G. Coatcs, Minister of Public Works, was also present. Mr. Toe, committee chairman, and Mr. Brady, ex-chairman, the Mayor, and the two Ministers, were the speakers. Six trees were planted in honour of the occasion. Mr. Parr was presented with as silver trowel by the committee as a souvenir. The Minister said the new school would be on modern lines, and one of the best in the Dominion. In the evening the Minister was entertained at a banquet tendered him at Dargaville by the Dargaville Borough Council and Hobson County Council. In the course of a speech on the education system. Mr. Parr said it would be an ill day for the Dominion if school committees and education boards were superseded by centralisation in Wellington. That was his candid and strong opinion. Attached to the Department it was ossential to have the locat committees representing the parents.
