PRISON CAMP BARBARITIES.
THE LEIPZIG SENTENCES. ALLIES MAY REVIEW THEM. LONDON, May 31. In the House of Commons, Mr. Horatio Bottomley (Independent) asked whether in view of tlie sentence of only 10 months' imprisonment passed by the Ijeipzig Court on Heymen for the ill-treatment of British prisoners of war, the Government would have tlie rest of the trials removed to London. The Attorney-General (Sir C.ordon Hewart) replied that when tlie trials were completed all relevant matters, including sentences, would he considered by the Powers concerned, and appropriate action would be taken. Meantime it was not desirable, even if practicable, to interrupt the present series of trials. Sir Gordon Hewart deprecated the tendency to sit in judgment on the sentences at Leipzig on imperfect material, and advised members to await the full report. Sir Ernest Pollock (Solicitor-General) has returned from Leipzig. In an interview he said that the Court which is trying the Germans accused by the Allies of crimes in tho war is equivalent to our Privy Council. The president is a man of striking force of character and impartiality. The interpreter has lived in Australia, and has an Aberdeen University degree. Sir Ernest Pollock approves the sentence passed on Heymen. A number of tho gravest British charges, be said, were not proven. The public may have the fullest confidence in the Court. —'(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
