SALE OF WINE.
IN NO-LICENSE AREA. ERRONEOUS IMPRESSION. A case of interest to vitieulturists and manufacturers of wine ■ vas heard at the Police Court, 'before Mr. J. E. Wilson, •S.M., this morning, when Stephen Valla pleaded guilty to selling -wine in a nolicense area. Sub-Inspector Wohlmann said the wine had been sold in the district of Eden, but apparently under a misapprehenson. In some way an impression appeared to have arisen among growers and makers of -wine that they could sell {heir product in a no-license area. Accused had not' been previously charged, and justification., was afforded of his belief that he was within his rights in selling the wine by the fact that he had notified the clerk of the Court of the sale. His "Worship eaid he was satisfied that defendant considered he was not committing a, breach as he had himself given nofice of the sale to the proper authority, thereby laying himself open to the present prosecution. The impression that wine could be sold in a no-license area wae an erroneous one, but in view '■ of. the facts he did not think this was a case for a penalty, and defendant wenM be ordered only to pay the costs of the prosecntkm.
