In a heavy engagement on the northwest frontier the British casualties were 330 in number. The Derajat column, which -woe advancing into the heart of the Mahsud country, was strongly opposed north of Ahuaidangi, upon which heavy fighting at close quarters occurred.
Kight British officers were killed, six wounded, and one is missing. Six Indian officers were killed and sis wounded, while of other ranks there were 35 killed and. 278 wounded, while 40 are niissing. An. aeroplane was shot down, but the airmen are safe.
The losses of the Mahsuds were at least 130 killed and 280 wounded. After the engagement the recalcitrant leaders asked for the advance to stop, when they would comply with the terms. The following day was quiet—(Reuter.)
