ENGINEERS' STRIKE.
BRAITCHES HOT IN ACCORD. (Received 9.55 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The result of the ballot of the marine engineers is that the terms of settlement as proposed by the owners have been refused. The Melbourne men accepted the terms by a substantial majority.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.) OUT OF WORK INSURANCE. APPLIES TO SEVER MILLIOM. ■ LONDON, January 22. . The Government actuary estimates that the unemployment insurance scheme applies to 7,995,000 persons, who contribute.annually £4,217,000 to the funds, the employers contributing . a like amount, and the Exchequer contributing £2,812,000.
