The Women's Parliamentary Rights Bill No. 2, providing that "a woman shall not be disqualified by sex or marriage from being appointed ac a member of the Legislative Council or from sitting or voting ac a member thereof," was thrown out by the Legislative Council on its second reading this afternoon by 18 votes to 8. A deputation representing various women's organisations waited on the Prime Minister to-day to congratulate him upon -what he had done with regard to the Women's Parliamentary Rights Bill to strengthen his hand if necessary to enable the new Bill to pass through the Legislative Council. Various speakers admitted that Mr. Massey had even gone further than he promised last session in his efforts on behalf of the women.
