SENSATIONAL DISCOVERY.
MATCHES IN BENZINE CAEOO. MIGHT HAVE MEANT DISASTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, this daj. Mr. McLeay, manager of the Richardson Steamship Company, reports that the steamer Awaliou took from Auckland 465 cases of benzine, and when the last of these were being unloaded yesterday at the bottom of the hold a paper box of wax vestas was found wedged in between two cases. Mr. McLeay states fortunately the vessel had an exceptionally smooth passage Had she been labouring and the cargo moving it is quite possible there would have been another Tainui disaster.
