TRUCKS FOR ROAD METAL. (By Telegraph.— Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. The Hamilton Borough Council met last night, the Mayor (Mr. J. R. Tow) presiding. The Railway Department intimated that it was impossible to meet the council's demand for trucks for m.t-.1, owing to the call on them for moie important | traffic. The metal was only carried at ! the Department's, convenience. A resol_tion was pased protesting against the attitude of the Department. The Department of Agriculture wrote with reference to the dispatch of meat from the Horotiu abattoirs to Frankton and Hamilton, that instructions had been given for meat killed before 9 a.m. to be loaded on trucks in time to be picked up about 5 p.m. the same day. and that a report was being obtained as to whether this arrangement should be allowed to continue. The Mayor said it seemed quite satisfactory, and it was decided to forward the letter to the local Butchers' Association. A request from the headmaster of the Hamilton East School, for the use of the baths free for teaching swimming to children in school hours was granted. A special committee was appointed to consider a sebem. put forward if a private firm to deal with the disposal of rubbish. Letters were received from the Cambridire and Pukekohe Borough Councils and" the Waitomo Council with reference to war trophies. It was stated that the Minister for Defence had said that all trophies were to be distributed between the towns in which the headquarters of each regiment was situated, but were to be considered the property of the regimental area, and that the claims of other towns in the area had to be considered. Officers command- ,„- units had been -riven instructions, , a Td the Minister, to confer with mayors of towns with a view to forming a committee to deal with the distribution or trophies on an equitable basis. The councils mentioned asked for Hamilton's views on tbe matter. It was deckled to reply that when the trophies come to hand everything possible would be done to ensure an equitable allocation.
