_________.T_o_" AWARDS. SPECIAL MEETING TO BE HELD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHLRCH, Friday. The session of the University Senate *_ continued to-day. Professor Gilray moved: '"That the prescription for English at the adTanced stage shall be as in the calendar, i T_h the proviso that a candidate in English at the advanced stage shall be required to forward to the registrar, from —c teacher of English in an affiliated institution, a certificate to the effect -at he has attended the lectures and lias passed the required examinations, to the satisfaction of the teacher, on a course of lecture, on a period of literature additional to that passed by the candidate at the pass stage and not t'ae period of his examination at the pass subjects, and on the books prescribed in connection with that course, in addition to passing an examination on the language work specially prescribed for the first year of the repeat stage." The motion was carried. Professor Hunter moved: "That the finance Committee be asked to consider —c question of the payment of the professor, of the colleges for their work in preparing reports on the work of the ---dents who were prejudicially affected in their university examinations." The —otion was lost. Mr. yon Haast moved: "That the sub?~t for the Arnold Atkinson memorial prize for 1919, be 'England as the Trustee of the Peoples Under Her Sovereignty or Prot .Tion." The examiners to be Professor Grossmann. Mr Mahon, and Dr --inford." This was agreed to. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Macallan Brown, moved: "That a special meeting of the senate be held in Wellington as'soon as convenient after the receipt of the reports from the English examiners, with power to deal with the following: The awarding of degrees, honours, scholar-hip . prizes, and other matters arising out "of the 1910 examinations and of examinations prior to that meeting, any matters remitted from this ""Meting, the award of free passases, any K «_tive matters that may arise and that can.-.t conveniently be postponed *ffl next m .ting, and "that the next annual ses-'on of the senate begin in &_e_n on January 21. 19-0."
