OXFORD SCHOLARSHIPS.
GRANTED TO AUCKLANDER. Sergeant H. E. Reynolds, a young Auckland&r, who. previous to leaving for "the front," won distinction both at the Auckland Grammar School and at the University, has had a further educational honour conferred upon him in London. A private cablegram received by his mother (Mrs. Reynolds), who resides in Kenyon Avenue, Mt. Eden, states that Sergt. Reynolds has been granted a free. scholarship at Oxford for a period of three years, with a grant of £250 per annum. Sergeant Reynolds, before hii departure with the 22nd Reinforcements, was "runner up" for the Rhodes Scholarship of 1916. He was slightly wounded in action, and after becoming convalescent was employed in educational work among the troops in England. He is at present an inspector in connection with the educational scheme being carried on at Hornchurch.
