BRITAIN'S HEAVY CROPS.
BIG SAVING IN SHBPPUfG. (Received 8.55 ajn.) LONDON, Slay 28. The Press Bureau reports that the April census shows the total acreage of ■wheat in England and Wales is the highest recorded eince ISS2, the area of barley the 'highest recorded by 20 per cent, and the area nnder potatoes the highest on record by 27 per cent. The Director-General of Food Production j states that the net saving of shipping resutting from the increased production of corn and potatoes in England and Wales alcne should amount in the coming year to 1.500,000 tons.—(A. and N.Z.)
