OBJECTION TO CONSCRIPTION
-MEETING OF MAORIS. At a meeting of Maoris, held in Waihi, the decision of the Government to enforce conscription among the Maoris in the Waikato district, was discussed. It is stated that there was a good attendance, there being abouti 500 or 000 present, while thoee present decided that they would have nothing whatever to do with conscription. A sitting had been appointed by the Medical Board, to be held at Htintly. for the purpose of examining the Maoris drawn in the recent ballot, but only five presented themselves for examination. These men are employed, it is said, at the Pukemiro collieries, and are entitled to claim exemption by reason of their occupation- Later in the day the Medical Board left Huntly.
