CHURCH BELLS.

<To the Editor.) Sir, —One regrete to find, especially at a time like the present, such a letter as appeared on the above subject in your columns last night. Surely such hypersensitive natures would he happier in some backblocks village where no bells have yet appeared to mark its progress. However, to those with an uneasy feeling 'of attendance neglected one can easily understand church bells are anathema, despite their brief call. To our mind the saddest feature of the Sundays on the Continent and in America is the silencing of all that reminds that it is Sunday, so that amid the rush of excursions, racing, theatres, cinemas, and brilliantly-lit shops one is prompted to utterly forget the day and its significance.—!* am, etc., CHURCHGOER.
