NATIONAL WAR FUND.

TO AVOID ANOTHER LOAN. A MONSTER GIFT SCHEME. OWE TOWN PROMISES A SUBMARINE. (Received 9 a.m.) LO-VDOX, February 15. Leading an effort to avoid another loan, the business men's "tank bank week" is starting on March 4. Eeach town will be asked to raise enough to purchase some definite munition for the war, such as a Dreadnought; cruiser, destroyer, aeroplane, etc., according to the population. The people of Blyth, in Northumberland, have already undertaken to raise £100,000 to purchase a submarine. Mr Bonar Law, who inaugurated the campaign, stated in the House of Commons that £352,000,000 would be raised by war bonds. He undertook to say that there was every reason to hope that the success of the scheme would obviate a fixed loan.—(A. and X.Z. Cable.)
