HOLIDAY INVESTMENTS. INCREASE OF £138,495. Racing is one of the principal attractions during the holiday season, and that there is no lack of money in the Dominion may be gauged from the fact that during the period covering the holidays just ended, not less than £709,----969 10/ was invested in the totalisator, which is £135,495 more than passed through the machine during the same period in 1916-17, remarks the " Christchurcli Pre3S." The figures are not complete, however, as those for three or four minor meetings are not available. A comparison of the amount handled by the principal clubs is given below, the turnover in some cases constituting records for the clubs mentioned.
