TAKAPUNA SCHOOL.
CLOSING A ROAD. The proposal to close Lomond Street, an inndeiMeatcd roiel in- Tikapuna, in order to allow the Education" Department to .purchase a block of land opposite to the school, which is in that street, and join it to the existing premises by the enclosure of the land now comprising the road, was discussed at last night's meeting of the Borough Council. The matter first cropped up on a re- ' quest 'from Mr. Ay Harris, M.P;, who at- ' tended; the- meeting, ' titat the" Council should give an assurance' tha'£"it Would ■place no obstacle in the way of the • closing of the road. He had been in communication with the Education Board, -and such an assurance was re--1 quested by ihe Board before it would act in. the matter. The Mayor (Mr. W. Blomficld) replied ' {.hat, the. matter was really beyond the jurisdietron-bf the Council, as the Voad was undedicated, but. provided that the Education " Department ' overcame obstacles it had no objections to make. Subsequently the legal position waa explained by the borough solicitor (Mr. 'M-.'G. -MoGreßorl; who pointed out that although the road was undedica'ted, sections wpre sold on it as long ago as 1863. while several'portions wer* placed under-the provisions of thl> Land Transfer Act. Hie .view was that anyone d«v sirimr to close the road, or portion of it. would Teqnirc the consent of the original owners, arid of all the owners along the street.
