"LICENSED PREMISES."
(To the Editor.) Sir—As clubs in No-License districts cannot sell intoxicating liquors while No-License is in force, one may he excused for thinking that clubs which 6ell intoxicants in license districts are "licensed premises," especially as it is illegal to sell liquor without a license to do so. The decision given at the Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, therefore, came as a surprise. However, upon looking up the Act, I find clubs omitted from the described list of "licensed premises," and thus the decision is correct, but the l»w neeejs some alteration. In a copy of the annual report of this club it is shown ■that the bar receipts amounted to tobacco £336, with a profit of £1813, If not "licensed premises/ it must be a strange "Mechanics' Ipst'tute" which spends over £4000 in drink and tobacco and only £37 10/11 on papers and magazines.'—l am, etc., W. J. MACDERMOTT.
