BUILDINGS ON TOWN DOCK SITE.
CTo the Editor.) Sir, —In Auckland as' a visitor from the South, I epuld not but be struck wjth the improvements effected in the direction of our former dock. As things are now, instead of the former congested sheds and other buildings, a splendid open space is secured on and about the dock area. But the suggested policy ot the Harbour Board is, I believe, to invite th§ erection of buildings hereon- JJpw, instead of following a purely moneyhags, policy, and restoring t__ former congestion in this important scenic portion of our city, would it not be mow creditable to reserve the old dock arfft -_> _ breathing space? A fountain in the centre of the trhwgle—memorial or . therwiee—the rest laid out in lawn, flowerbeds, shelter trees—willow, elm, creak, with circular or octagonal seats i around them, scattered rock cones or pyramids fpr climbing flowers and vines, etc. Here indeed would be a worthy frontage to the municipal -baths, and a resting place during a cwalk round the city esplana.d_T—l am, etc..
