82,500 MEN UNDER ASMS. CAM, FOB MORE B,ECBUTTS TO DOUBLE THE QOUTA. (Received 10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this Jay. The Federal Defence Minister (Mr. G. F. Pearce ). speaking at a recruiting meeting in the Town Hall, said Australia had clone more than anybody expected. She had sent i;?>..")22 men to the front, had 18.97S in training, and was pledged to stnd 5.000 reinforcements a month. She must set cut to do what she could to double or treble these fi<mres. Recruiting could be very much better, especially in Victoria. The British authorities had informed tho Australian Government that every man was wanted. Mr. Pearco said he knew there were difficulties in the way lof equipment which the Government j would surmount. He was confident that with t!:e realisation of the issue at stake Australia could double the number of her men in ti:e field.
