PERSONAL.
The Hon. J. G. W. Aitken, M.L.C., is visiting Auckland. "Mr. Tail Henare, M.P. for the Northern Maori electorate, is at present visiting Auckland. Mr. Justice Cooper returned from Hamilton this afternoon, and leaves) for Gisbornc to-morrow. Mr. John Campbell, Government architect, Wellington, ha 3 been visiting Rotorua with his wife. Mr. A. F. Low lias been appointed to succeed iMr. 11. Ottorson as Clerk to the House of Representatives. Mr. Samuel Augustus Breach, who has just died nt Hastings, aged 70 years, was a very old settler of Taranaki, and one of the first to go in for dairying on a Large scale. Mr. H. X. Holmes (formerly of Wellington), national secretary of the South African V.M.C.A., is at work establishing soldiers' Institutes in Damaraland. The Mayor (Mr J. H. Gunson) -was last evening appointed to represent the City Council on the Auckland University College Council, in succession to Mr C. J. Parr, whose term expires on June 30th. Mr. P. P. Evans, locomotive engineer at Petone workshops, was presented with a solid silver tea service on behalf of tihe officers and staffs of the locomotive branch of the North Island main line and branches ac a mark of esteem upon his promotion to Addington.
