LEPROSY SPREADS.

FRANCE ALARMED. 9 REPORT TO BE PREPARED. (Times-Sydney Sun Special Cable.) PARIS, January 6. Alarm is felt by the French Ministry at the increase in leprosy in France. Five per cent of the sewer rats in Paris are leprous, and the number of lepers has increased within a few years from 50 to 300. There is a colony of 40 in Britanny, and one of 60 on the Italian frontier. Dr. Marcheaux, of the Pasteur Institute, states that there is no great reason why the disease should again become the scourge it was 600 years ago. .The institute has been asked to report ■upon measures to prevent the further spread of the disease.
