RAILWAY BATTALIONS.
ASSAULT AT ARMS. ißy Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, (Friday. An interesting competition commonly called. '"Thfi Assault at Arms,'' in reality physical drill without- arms, took place at the Garrison Hall, Wellington this morning between teams representing Wanganui and Auckland sections of the railway battalion. The teanis comprised eight men and a non-commissioned officer, and tie exercises were those set for the military tournament -to-be held at, Auckland. The judge (Major Hume, R.N.Z.A.) considers that both teams did creditable work, but the Wanganui men were slightly aiiead of the Aucklanders. After tlie competition tbe judge criticised the work, and drew attention to the points in which it might be improved. A team to represent the battalion will compete at the Auckland tournament, and it is probable that the members will be cheseu from both of the teams that took part in the competition to-day. The competition was watched by the director of ordnance (who controls the rail wiry) and Col. Hi-ley (General Manager of Railways).
