EFFECT OF THE STRIKE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON. Friday. In its summary of the conditions of trade and employment in Auckland during November the Labour -Departmem "a offioere stale that -akoost every industry -has been affected ; by the 6trike. Some industries ca-me to a complete standstill, -while others were affected in a minor degree. Towards the end of tie period, however, the building and allied trado-.. with the exception of bricklayers, regained their normal conditions. The boctinakin-g. clothing, confectionery and biscnit works, agricultural imple- | ment making, brass and copper smithing, and electrical engineering works are in I full s-wing. and it is expected that they will remain so until Christmas. Dressmaking and millinery and shirt making are busy, while tho printing trade is -fair. The cycle and motor trades liave been exceptionally busy, due no doubt to the fact that the tram service was suspended for some time. In the unskilled labour the only demand- is for tarm -workers, a! number of whom, could readily be.placed. During the period sixxy men have been assisted to cmplov- ■ went, that is eighteen maided and ■ lorty-two single, with forty-nine depend- - ants. Of these -fifty-one weTe sent to . private employment and nine to Govern I -ment -vrork thirty-four -being from'the 1 North Island, two from the South Ts MUnd eighteen from. Great -.Britain, 'and tjsix from other parts. One wife "and' ivhree children were -also assisted.
