LOCAL GOVERNORS.
COLONIAL OFFICE ATTITUDE.
(Received 11.10 a.m.)
PERTH, this day. Correspondence between the Imperial authorities and the Premier (Mr John Scadden) regarding the resolution passed by the House of Assembly in November last year, asking that the Colonial Office reconsider the question of the appointment of State Governors with a view to permitting citizens of the Commonwealth to occupy the office, is published.
Mr Harcourt's reply, while attaching great weight to a proposal which was supported by the Assembly, and endorsed by Ministers, states that a change in the present system could not be entertained unless it applied to all the Australian States, and public opinion was demonstrated overwhelmingly in its favour.
