DEAR APPLES.
■Now-that apples are out- of season here, the demand for goad ones has so increased the price, that they retail at 15 cents apiece, and at some hotels, are listed on the menus a≤ high, as 40, cents apiece. One of the Western growers, ■who made a specialty, of packing choice ■fruit for hotel trade, boasts of having received ten cents apiece for six thousand apples, each separately wrapped, like oranges, in tissue paper and packed in boxes instead of barrels. These apples had been picked from the trees" with 6hears to cut the stems in order to preserve the leaves, one or two of wliica went with each apple, arid to .prevent the danger of the fruit being 'bruised'by falling on the ground.
