EXCITING MOMENTS.

A 6erious mishap was narrowly averted while the warship's gangway was being lowered after the dropping of the anchors. A small harbour steamer, containing a company of veterans, steamed towards tbe gangway, and having too much headway on, her nose butted into the ladder near the waterline. A couple of sailors narrowly escaped being crashed and thrown* into the harbour. After the intruding' steamer had backed away, the gangway was taken up for overhaul- A few minutes later, amid a general crowding of email craft, two launches collided. The shock caused a young "mail, who was standing on the deck of one of them, to lose his balance and fall into lhe water. Fortunately, he was a good swimmer, and was' able to ke'ep'afloat' till he could be picked up.
