A.R.C. GARDEN PARTY.
A BRILLIANT FUNCTION. The Auckland Racing Club entertained a large assemblage of guests at a garden party at EllersLie on Saturday. The weather was beautiful, and the lawn and gardens were a perfect picture, and the function was a most enjoyable one. The president of the Club, "the Hon. E. Mitchelson, received the guests, which inclnded Mr C. J. Parr, Mayor of Auckland, his Hon. Mr .lustice Cooper. Mr C. C. Kettle, SAL. the various Consuls, representatives of the local bodies in and around Auckland, members of the House of Representatives, and hundreds of leading citizens. Afternoon tea. under the supervision of Mr J. Sinclair, was provided, the arrangements preventing any undue crowding. A feature of the afternoon was the excellent musical programme provided by the Third (Auckland l Mounted Rifles Band, under bandmaster Whalley Stewart, every item being loudly applauded. Advantage was taken of the large attendance to have a public triai of the new tot-alisator which has just been installed, and considerable interest was taken in the working of the machine by racing experts, and there was some controversy as to its merit*. An opinion, however, could hardly be formed until the machine was seen work ing under the stressful condition* of an k*e*Bal am * 'C '" - —._
