review the mine had not yielded, enoug. gold to pay working expenses, there- had been a large amount of work done of a very satisfactory riatuxe. The prospects, as the result of that work, are more cheering now than they h*ve been for some time back. The report further stated:—" In the Interests of the Thames IMeloV but more particularly as affecting the welfare of this company, yonr directors are pleased to be able at last to congratulate shareholders on the completion of arrangements between the various mining companies, whereby worß will shortly be commenced ou the large drainage drive, at the 1000 feet level. This level promises to be of special value to our company, for it will enable ns to get under the well-known reefs, which have yielded large amounts of gold, from the upper levels at various periods during the past 33 years." Ths retiring directors are Messrs. N. N. Nathan and Henry Green who, being eligible, offer themselves for re-election; and the auditor, Mr. D. IS. McDonald, also offer» himself for re-appointment. Mr Graves Aicken presided, ami. in moving the adoption of the report and balancesheet Qmblished In last Issue), he said they had an excellent and eonscietrtions manager. There was every reason to believe that during the year they would have something good to show. The No. 4 level was the one £12011 to £1300 was. spent on in trying to get the Waiotahi reef. The manager was determined to work on No. 1 reef huTward. Seaward they bad driven on that reef until they were stopped by the mining inspector for fear they should let the sea in. A winze bad been sunk below No. 4 level which gave good prospects. As to the deep level scheme, the agreement had been signed by every company, and they would start work as soon as the pump was ready. That was expected to be In abont a fortnight, so they should soon be at work on the 1000 ft crosscut.

Mr R. C. Carr seconded the adoption oi the report and balance-sheet, which was agreed to.

The retiring directors, Messrs N. A. Nathan and Henry Green, were re-elected, and Mr D. B. McDonald, auditor.

MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Waiotahi.—The sixth stope on the Cnre reef has been carried west of the rise for 23ft, and colours of gold have been seen in the quartz broken. At No. 5 level, the drive west from the rise on the junction of the main reef and hangingwall leader at the Intermediate level Is in 47ft, bot no gold

has been seen during the week. On the hangingwall leader, No. 4 level, the fourth stope has been carried west from the rise for a distance of lift, and good dabs of gold are seen. On the hangingwall portion of the main reef work has been chiefly confined to timibering, preparatory to starting a second stope.

Cwwn ltoyal Mines.—The new branch reef has been cut into sft. There Is a full face of quartz still ahead. The stone looks exceedingly well, being highly mineralised. The stone in the face at present looks much improved.

New I'onistock.—No. 2 level is in 304 ft. aud penetrating a very favourable class of country, is interlaced with quartz stringers. Two men have been employed clearing aud repairing the Waverley level. During the next week the old crosscut should be reached, when a start will be made prospecting the reef, and making a thorough examination of the leveL

Ngutiawa.—ln the roof of the stope the reef has now picked out. and a crosscut has put into the footwall six feet, and four feet of quartz is now exposed. The osrciy valnes so far are low. In the Sunbeam portion. No. 1 level, the reef is 2ft. wide, and carries big values. Work has been resumed in the stopes. and the ore won is of bettor value. At the west face of the top stope, and also at the top of the face of the drive, ♦he footw:ill of a strong lode has beci touched. A sample assayed (lid not reveal much value, but the present reef has greatly improved in value as it neared the new lode.

Kuranni.—The Blythe low level is penetrating good country, and samples of the ore are now being tested. The quartz coining to hand from the shaft leader is heavily mineralised, and one cwt. is being tested at the mill. In No. 1 stope west colours or sold are seen, and a small leader near the footwall Is also carrying gold. Stopiug In the main drive gives splendid prospects.

May Qneen.—No. 6-level In the drive on the hangingwall branch leader prospects very fairly. The leader looks well, and the quartz frequently shows good dabs of gold. In the intermediate level the above leader Is also being driven on, and the quartz coming to hand should be of a fair grade, as gold has been seen pretty freely at each breaking flown. The leading stope is being brongut forward, and the level timbered up, and a second stope Is also In hand. In both these the quartz shows gold, and, at times, yields a little picked stone. The stopes on the footwall branch of No. 4 lode are in progress as usual, and from the qxrarts won a pound or so of picked stone occasionally comes to hand.

Goklcu Pah.—The winze at the 80ft. level is down 7ft. The country is improving downwards: MacdonalcTs leader is 4 and 6 inches in width, and la splendid looking quartz. "

Moanataiari.—The rise is op 77rt_, and still •penetrating first-ciass country. There Is an improvement in the leader for the last few feet

Wafhi Extended.—The face north is In 60 feet from the main crosscut. A full face or quartz Is being carried along witib. no walls exposed. For the last few feet the sulphide has been more continuous. The rise to connect with No. 5 winze is up 10 feet, on three feet of stone.

Old Alburnia.—Driving has been resumed on No. 4. There is a body of ore 2ft 6in in width, with a hangingwall that carries good mineral indications. The reef in the rise is 2ft wide, and some of the stone has a kindly appearance, but no quartz has been broken.

Reliance.—Tbe reef shows improvement as the drive advances. About five feet in width is being carried in the drive. After another 20ft of driving, a crosscut will be put into the hangingwall.

Mt. Welcome.—ln the low level, blotches of gold are occasionally seen in 'the Mt, Welcome reef. The reef has been abandoned, owing to trouble with the water. At last breaking-down strong dabs of gold were seen.

Magnet—The reef in the upper level is 2ft 6rn. Colours of gold are *een in the stone.

imperial.—The reef averages three feet. At last breaking-down a few colours of gold were seen.

Victoria.—ln the winze below No. 3 level there shows a width of IS inches, and colours of gold are seen in the stone. Three stopes are in progress above No. 1 level. In No. 1 stope the reef averages 12 Inches of good-looking quartz; in So. 2, nine inches, and showing good colours; while No 3, though smaller, has produced five pounds of picked stone.

Kuranui-Caledonian.—The rise ou the cross leader is up 50ft above level. A winze was started directly under where the few pieces of picked stone were got, but, as no gold was seen, work was stopped at this point. Iv the leading stope on the footwall leader a. few colours of gold have been seen, but -he leader is now rather pinched So far only a few small stringers of quartz have been met with south of the footwail leader.

New Waiteknuri.—The intermediate between the Queen and Smithy levcli is along 20ft. The reef has lost its broken nature, and is now showing about ISm of good solid quartz. So far tb e values are too low for crushing.

Watchman,—A distance of 30ft has been driven on the hangingwall of the Windfall reef from the rise. The quartz shows improvement, giving good prospects of free gold in the dish. Some nice sulphide stone has also been seen.

Dixon's Consolidated.—The south drive or. the hangingwall reef Is along 34ft from the junction. The reef maintains its size cf three feet and carries good indications for making gold. The winze on the main reef is down IML It is still carrying splen did minerals, and. from its general appear ance. stone may be met with at any time In the low level the -quartz in the face is of a kindly nature.

Waihi Beach.—ln accordance with instructions, underground work has been stopped, and the pump lifted.

Southern Queen.—A winze was sunk from the floor of the level, and prove.l that the reef is intact from Sullivan's winze to the crosscut driven on the Blue reef. An underhand stope has been taken out west of the crosscut for five feet. The reef averages eight inches to one foot. A few colours of gold have been seen.

New Discoverer Syndicate.—The manager reports that there are several well defined lodes on the property. One rnnninparallel with the creek is in places heavily

mineralised, and gives fair dish prospects. There is also a network of small leaders towards the north boundary, which the manager thinks will prove to be a big lode at a depth. In 'some of these coarse colours of gold can be seen.

Bonanza.—The low level Is passing through highly mineralised country. Several quartz stringers have been cut, and, from the general appearance, the reef may be met with at any time.

Halcyon.—The tunnel is along 157 ft, and the country Ls a little firmer, carrying nice white silica heads.

Waitangi.—The drive in the western section is in good country. Crushing is proceeding at the 'Waiotahi battery. Ore from the No. 3 level is now all carted to the battery, making 99 lodes in all.

New Sylvia.—The drive north on main reef at low level has been extended Sft, with reef not so strong in galena ore, the hangingwall portion being a mixture of pug and galena, in bunches instead of bands. Strong quartz continues in the main portion of reef, and the whole gives a good payable assay value. In No. 2 rise a further six feet has been risen on a fine body of ore. six feet in width, strongly impregnated with galena ore, and giving payable values throughout. The rise now exceeds 90ft in height, and high values have been obtained for the whole distance.

Silverstream The country has in it very hard calcite seams. The drive is along 182 ft. Another week should see the Julia level cleaned.

Karangahake. — The quartz broken from the big' reef sotrth is still very hard, and at times it contains a pair amount of mineral. The manager intends to drive across the reef at a long angle, to prove Its value in the centre, and on theotber wall. The rise at Koss' level Is now up S3ft.

T.irani Mines. —No. 4 level crosscut is along 216 ft. At this point the Vulcan lode was cat. This has been cut into about 3ft, and there is no sign of the footwall as yet. Tbe quartz broken down is of the very best description for the existence of gold.
