ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL
The fortnightly meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council was held last evening. There were present: The Mayor (Mr John Howe) in the chair, and Messrs S. Skinner, t". A. Osborne. T. Stomas, J- Stoupe, C. C. Uavis, W. Colledge, A. S. Holmes, and H. M. Johnson.
It was resolved to alter the by-laws, so as to deal with the speed of motor bikes, and to enforce the carrying of lights on drays.
Mangere Bridge.—On the motion of the Mayor, it was decided that the Government be asked to appoint a Royal Commission to inquire into the question of the Mangere bridge, and to apportion the cost of upkeep, etc., the present charges being in the opinion of the Borough Council altogether out of proportion.
Waterworks' Extension. — The Major moved that a poll of ratepayers be taken to authorise the raising of a loan of £3150, for the purpose of extending the water mains from the Royal Oak to the Harp of Erin, from Te Papapa to the Borough boundary, to connect with proposed main to city abattoirs: Penrose extension, Tra-falgar-street to Borough boundary; extensions along Xeilson-street, Willow-street, and Captain-street; and that £500 be set aside for meters, etc. —Agreed to.
Retaining Wall. Arthur-street.— A. tender was received for building a wall in Arthurstreet, for £12S 14/6. from Messrs Lynds and Nixon, but was not accepted, it being decided to carry out tbe work by daylabour, under the supervision of the foreman of
Water Supply.—A letter was received from the Auckland City Council agreeing to the terms of agreement for supplying water to the city abattoirs, and expressing their willingness not to charge more than 1/ per 1000 gallons to the Otahuhn Road Board in the event of that body requiring water.
Onehunga Park.—On the motion of Mr -Holmes, it was agreed to consider in committee the question of erecting two lamps in the Onehunga Park.
Finance. —The Town Clerk ajnounoed a credit balancs in the Mount Smart Domain account of £73 3/0. and iv the Onehunga Park aecoont of £25 &/T.
Footpaths.—A letter -was read from Mr 3. C. Baldwin asking that a footpath be formed past his property in Church-street. It was decided to inform Mr Bald-win that the Council intended to have the footpath made through to Albert-street as soon as possible.
