PICNICS.
MANGERE SCHOOLS PICNIC. The Mangere schools annual picnic was held at Mr J. W. Whyte's farm, Pukakl, ou Wednesday last. Some 600 people assembled. The weather was all that could be desired. The committee, with their wives, the teachers, and other willing helpers carried out the arrangements successfully. Messrs Knight, senr. and Junr., Lang, and Atkinson, conveyed the children to the ground In wagons, and the Mangere and Pukaki roads have not been so busy for a long time. Messrs Potter and Knight, senr., acted as Judges for the sports, and Messrs Clark and Lambourne as starters and handicappers. ■ . •'■ *> '■' Two special events, for prizes given by Messrs Keeslng and Brewln, of Onehungn, were the: cause of much friendly rivalry. The former presented a watch, chain, and greenstone pendant, which was won by Tom Pal, of the Mangere Bridge School. The latter gave a very pretty gold watch, and it fell to Ivy Rothery, of the Mangere School. Prizes- were provided for twenty other events, and these, together with a gift to every child, from standard 11. downwards, were presented by Mrs Westney. , The chairman of tt*n committee (Mr Westney) called for cheers, for Mr -Whyte for the use of his ground. These were given lustily, and kept up by the' wagon loads: of merry youngsters all along'the road home.
