FRUIT AND PRODUCE MARKETS. The local fruit and produce markets have been rather quiet during the past week. The supply of produce generally was equal to the demand, but there were no nlterat'ona In values. In dairy produce the usual supplies came to hand, and met with ready demand. Eggs sold under keen competition. •Bacon and hams were scarce and dear. Fruit was also scarce and sold at high prices. Poultry were penned in small numbers and realised high values. The following were the ruling prices at the auction snles yesterday:— Field Produce.—Potatoes: Southern, prime, £5 10/ to £5 10/ ton. Onions: Culifornlan, 20/ to 22/6 iwt. Chaff: Local, prime £5 10/ ton; Southern, prune, £ti. . Dairy Produce.—Butter:' Farmers", in ' prints, prime. Tomatoes: Hothouse, M to HJd per lb. Mandarins: Sydney. 10/ to 14/6 case. Lemons: Local, prime, 3/ to B/ case; local, rough and coarse, 3/ to 4/; Sydney, 10/. Passion-fruit, 4/ to 0/ case. Bananas, 4/ to 6/ bunch, 2d lb. pines, 8/ to 12/ crate. Poultry.—Hens, 2/6 to 3/ each; table roosters, 3/1 to 4/9; ducks. 1/6 to 3/. Turkeys: Gobblers, 6/ to 14/ each; hens, 4/ to 8/. Dalgety and Co. have received the f olowlng cable from London, under r date 15th inst:— Frozen Meat.—N.Z. primp ox beef: Fores are quoted at 3Jd per lb; hinds. 4jd- *- z - lamb: The demand is good. Prime heavy Canterbury lamb is quoted at 43d per lb; light, ojd per lb; North Island, heavy 4sd, light ."Sd per lb. The market is very firm. N.Z. mutton: The demand is limited. Canterbury, heavy 3Sd, light 4id per lb: North Island, henry 3|d per lb. light 33d per lb. Beef of good quality, other than Australasian, is offering at low prices. Australian average quality lamb (croßsbred), heavy 4Jd, light 5d per lb. Owing to small arrivals, business is limited. Wheat.—The market is weak, owing to free offerings of River Plate. BUTTER AND EGGS. The Dairy Produce Committee fixed the wholesale quotations for butter and eggs for the week ending 24th of October, as follows:—Factory buttery I/O*; farmers' butter, 8d per lb; eggs, 9d per dozen. WOOL FIttSI. (Received 12.55 p.m.) LONDON, October l<s. Wool is flrm and the price unchanged. A PROSPEROUS COMPANY. (Received 9.43 a.m.) LONDON, October Iβ. The Australian Mortgage, Land, and Finance Company's report shows a profit' of £171,079.' WHEAT AND STRAW. The markets are drill, and buyers are scarce. Australian steamer parcels, September shipment, sold at 38/3; October, 38/. Cargoes by sailers In December and January are offering fit 33/0; strangers, 36/. Flour is unchauged, with a tendency downward. BUTTER. The market is Grm.
