Mr Thos. Finlaysott leaves for the south to-nibrfow. Mr. Foster, late chief officer of tthe Takapvuta, has been appointed to a similar position on the Wliangape. j Drs. Renton, formerly of IT okitika, and ■, Guy Raskins, an plii Christchurcb. boy, returned by the Maheno to _ New Zealand on a visit, prior to taking up practice in tne United States. Mr. Geo. Hogben, Inspector-General of Schools, -will pay an official visit to Auckland next week. The Hon. J. McGowan, Minister for Mines and Justice, will come North next week. Mr. J. J. Campiin, one of our local pianoforte tuhers, leaves to-morrow for a tour of the Dominion as tuner to Mark Hambourg. The following changes in the Union Company's steamers are announced :— Captain W. Stevens from the Wanaka to the Manapovtri; Captain A. Di Chrffp from the Whangape to the Koromiko; and Captain Clift from , the Koromiko to the Rotoiti. A very pleasing function took place yesterday afternoon at the telegraph j I office in the chief clerk's office, when Mr | IR. G. Fowler,, chief clerk, on behalf of I the counter staff, handed to Mr G. C. Parker a Very handsome silver cake basket as a email token of their regard and best wishes on the occasion of his approaching marriage. ■Mr and Mrs Louis Becke leave Auckland by the Manapouri for Suva on the 28th inst. Mr Becke proceeds thence to the Solomon Islands, where he will commence his investigations on behalf of the British and German Royal Geographical Societies. Mrs Becke, accompanied by her two daughters, goes on to Samoa, and afterwards returns to Auckland to wait until her husband arrives back in this city.
