ROWING ASSOCIATION.
DirtTCULTIKS SETTLED. (By Telegraph-.— Press Association.* WELLINGTON, this day. The trouble that- arose between, the Now Zealand Amateur Rowing Executive and the Auckland Rowing Association, and which at one time threatened to end in the suspension of the latter Body, was averted by the tact and conciliatory policy adopted by Mr. H. A. Marriner, president of the' Auckland Association, during his recent visit to Wellington in connection with the annual meeting of the council of the parent institution. Mi , . Marriner, and Mr. Benjamin, secretary of the Auckland Rowing Association, met the members of the N.Z.A.R.A. in conference, and the difficulties in dispute were satisfactorily adjusted, after a slight breeze between the chairman and ilr. Benjamin. The contest for the presidency of the X.Z.A.R.A. was a Cakewalk for Mr. Marliner, who defeated his opponent, Mr. C. Pearee of Wellington, by 23 to 3. The claims of Auckland to hold this season's rowing championships were recognised by the delegates, who, with I the exception of the Canterbury and | Southland representatives, cast their i votes in favour of the Northern Association. Akaroa was the other candidate, Marlborough having withdrawn from the field at the. eleventh hour. Before the meeting dispersed, Mr. Marriner announced his intention of presenting a silver challenge cup for competition in the sculling event, to replace the Edmond Cup which had been won outright by W helch, who has now, gone over to the professional ranks. A wish was expressby by the Canterbury representatives that the Auckland Association would endeavour to arrange for the championship meeting being held earlier in the season than heretofore, and Mr. Benjamin intimated in all probability Ja#uary 29 would be the selected date.
