MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Dominion. —Trenching on the western side of the mine has revealed a reef about Dft wide, in splendid sandstone country. The stone looks well for gold, and samples are being assayed. New Waitekauri.—The lode is still 3ft in width but is still of low grade. The wet weather is causing tne ground co swell In th° main level, and break the timbers, ornshin™ should be completed this week. I Belt—The rise from the Bluff level has been extended ,ft Tne winze from tlie open cut is down -6ft A fair, show of gold is got by dish tests. cavily mineralised, and carries a large icrcentage of copper. 2Dhe centre of the eef carries' a nice blend of tclluxide rich n value, and snows colours of gold freely, .'he footwall is not so hea-rtly mineralised, mt carries a good deal of .nine blend with iaibs and colours of gold. No.assay was con.idered necessary, as the gold shows from ootwall to hangingwall. Going east from So. 1 crosscut the reef averages 2&ft, but 10 gold has oeen 6een in the ore broken lis week, although it carries good minimis, and Is of fair value to assay. In the >astern section nz the low lfeveL the fdotTall erf the main reef Is ln hard country, iu:erlaced wlbh veins of quartz stringers. The reef has been broken down for 4ft, an lverage width of 2Jft. Halcyon—Th? reef in the rise continues to show a' littie gold. The reef looks well, and carries splendid mineral. Twenty feet in the low level a s>mall lode from 5 to 61n In width has been cut, and by panning a little gold is got. Bonanza.—A distance of 067 ft has been driven. A good stream of water is flowing from the face. Scandinavian. —Fair progress has been made In tbe rise during the Week, lift having been risen, or a total of 18ft from the back of the level. The air so far has been fairly good, and I anticipate no difficulty in rising through on this account The footwall country is still of the same firm, wcll-mlnerallsed character, and from the appearance of the portion of the reef now being broken out, good values should be obtalneu irom it. Silver Hill. —The drive on the Silver King reef in the low level has been extended 13ft for tbe week. We ara iakin-: 3ft of the reef with us, which is hard and solid mineralised quarts. Mt Zechan.—A further distance of 13ft has been risen for the week, making a total distance of 321 ft. Two good walls nre showing, aud there is more quartz making, with a good drop of water percolating through. So far it has not made any difference to the drainage of the level above, but the manager hopes this level will dry very shortly. New Svlvla.—During the last fortnight the drive has been extended 22ft. making a total of 1590 ft. This leaves about 65ft to be driven before reaching the Sylvia lode. Owing to the heavy thunderstorm inst Sunday, a portion of the water race was damaged. This necessitated the men from the miuc being put on for five shifts to make the necessary repairs. Walotahi. —The winze on the dropper helow No. 6 level Is down a depth of 27ft. In breaklnc down the leader on Wednesday we selected 21b. of picked stone, but in a subsequent breaking down no gold was seen. The leader is about Cm. in width in the eastern end of the winze, but runs out very small iv the western end. A lint bliok formation came in from the footwall, which has now turned mostly to pug. The winze on the Cure reef below this level is down a depth of 19ft.. but no gold has been seen during the week. The first stope on the dropper enet of No. 2 rise hns been carried ln a distance of 14ft.. where the reef is tot off by a puggy formation. No. 5 level: The drive for the Walotahi No. 5 reef is in progress, and Is in a distance of 42ft. Stopln<; on the main reef under the No. 4 rise Is in hand, but no gold has been seen during the week. A third Stope on the dropper has been carried west from the rise to the old filling on the main reef, and we have now started to carry this stope oust of the rise. On the Cure reef the first stope has been carried west of the rise for a distance of 64ft.. the reef here being about 12in. in width, and during the week Rood dnbs of gold <lmvp been seen. No. 4 level: Driving on the hanpinewnll rib ot the main reof from the Maty Ann crosscut has been in hand, and we have driven west for 3ft. anil east for 4ft. Going west the rib of quartz is now about Sin in width, and east about s'2in. The rise on the main reef above this level- has been at a standstill during most of the week owintr to the air pipes having to be disconnected to allow the drive on the hangingwall rib to get clear of tho pipes. It is expected to get the rise going again during the week.
